For each individual LEP there is a set of required courses with minimum grades you must acheive in each course. The LEP repeat policy states that, "only one gateway or performance review course may be repeated to earn the required grade and that course may only be repeated once. When more than one course can satisfy a gateway requirement, taking a second course from the list will count as a repeat. This policy will be in effect for all students who first matriculated at the University of Maryland in Spring 2015 or later." Please note that if a student receives a grade of "W”, this counts as an attempt and counts toward the repeat count.
This means you are only allowed to repeat one gateway or performance review course for any of the LEP majors or you become ineligible for that major. This includes courses taken prior to attending Maryland that would have transfered to our university as an equivalency to the LEP requirement. Also, for the course being repeated you can only have repeated that course once. This policy also applies to any course that shows on your transcript as a withdrawal.
For a complete list of requirements for each LEP major visit, www.lep.umd.edu. Find the major you are interested in and look for the term “internal transfer” student. Students already at the University of Maryland are considered “internal transfer” students because they transfer between colleges on campus. The sheet will explain the courses you will take in the coming semesters to gain entry to the major.
Students that have violated the LEP repeat policy and are no longer eligible for that major, will be advised on alternate majors that best fit their interests and career goals. If you have concerns about your existing courses violating the LEP repeat policy for your major of interest contact, email@example.com.
